Vinyl versus Digital:
Which route should you go?

At Signs First we offer two choices for making your sign. You may have your sign printed digitally, or have us cut and lay vinyl to the base material. Both options create vibrant signs, but both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Vinyl is a thin sheet of colored plastic made from polyurethane. It is easily cut into letters and shapes of any sizes, has a strong adhesive on one side, and comes in many colors and finishes. Vinyl will adhere to almost anything, and lasts in outdoor conditions for up to __ years. For small projects like ‘now open’ banners or Coroplast signs, vinyl is the best option because it is so affordable. However when you are looking to get three or more colors on a sign, or you have a detailed photo or logo you want to use, vinyl is not for you.

Digital prints can be done on any material. They are crisp, color-exact, and ready quickly. Our printer can easily reproduce photos, graphics, and logos on the material of your choice. While going digital seems like the best option for whatever you want to make, that is simply not the case. Printing a few one color signs can be more expensive than getting the same sign in vinyl.

Things to consider when designing a sign:

Visibility:

What good is a sign if you can’t see it? Make sure that you chose a design that will stand out from the surrounding area. Use bright color and pictures to draw immediate attention.

Readability:

This is the difference between Arial and MevisonCasD. The Arial font is much easier to read than the other (which is NevisonCasD). When chosing a font for sign remember that a simpler design is better. Also be aware of the size and spacing of your font. When people are driving by, you want them to immediately be able to read the name of your business. You don’t want your font to be too squished or too spaced.
